Why I Prefer Reading Materials To Videos

When I first started learning how to trade it was primarily through video content. I bought courses, watched hundrends of hours of free online videos and I was still losing trades and not being profitable. I spent hundreds of hours backtesting my strategy and still couldn't break even. To me it never really made sense.

I found that the videos where good but typically they had insufficient information. Sometimes it wasn't really clear about how I could apply what people were saying. Sometimes it was just the same information repeated over and over again and I was struggling with something specific in my trading I couldn't find an answer to. (Now don't get me wrong, repetition is the mother of skill) but no matter how hard I tried nothing seemed to work.

Naturally it got me thinking, Why does it work for them an not me ? The conclusion I came to was that I needed more information and data than what they were providing.

Knowing what to isn't enough. You need to understand the why behind it. Alot of the people in their videos explain what to do, Some more unscrupulous individuals tell you what to do and want to make it appear easy.

I believe that this is one of the limits of videos. People want their videos to be engaging so that they can expand their reach, But sometimes some of the key ideas get lost in translation. Atleast thats what I found.

Videos tend to be unscripted as well, nothing wrong with that, but the order, structure and comprehensibility of information is probably more important than the information itself. How do all these ideas relate ? How do you actually apply and use the information, why do you apply it in a specific way and what results do you expect to achieve from applying the information ?

Getting a fully comprehensible video on why a individual made a trade is difficult because there's an entire thought process behind it which can be simplified but in that simplification key ideas may not be communicated.

With Text/written work (Especially a blog) it is more robust in how people can use it. You can skim through it to see if it has the answer you need or you can read and study it in-depth to improve your own understanding.

Also they can be updated or added to as time goes on and things develop. What I am trying to achieve with this blog is to broaden your knowledge base and understanding. Giving you certainty and improving your trading results by giving you accurate and practical data.

A datum (Peice of information), is only as valuable as its utility. If you can't use the information to improve your ability or certain conditions in life then it is useless.

A video really gives you a full picture but articles and written text tend to be more thought out and contain more practical and useable information, Atleast thats what my experience has taught me.
